Conflict Theory Response Racism - 851 Words

Conflict Theory Response Racism today can be traced back to the greed of white business men who legitimized bigotry to fulfill their economic desires. Today, I believe that the root issue of racial discrimination, or exclusion, is the legitimization of imperialism in the 19th century and the praise of capitalism/ neoliberalism on the international stage today. These political ends encourage stratification of the classes on all fronts, split labor markets, and create false consciousness in regard to the elite public. In truth, I have a hard time recognizing prejudice in regard to the African American public in Colorado. I’ve grown up in a largely white or Latino population and been unfamiliar with the ails of the African American community. I am however, very familiar with the racial discrimination and cultural discrimination that is projected on poor â€Å"undeveloped† countries. What is the disorder? Sickle Cell Anaemia. What is sickle cell anemia? Sickle cell anaemia (sickle cell disease) is a disorder of the blood caused by an inherited abnormal hemoglobin (the iron-rich protein that carries oxygen from your lungs to the rest of the body). Hemoglobin is the main substance of the red blood cell. It helps red blood cells carry oxygen from the air in our lungs and releases the oxygen to all parts of the body. From this, normal red blood cells are flexible and round, moving easily through blood vessels. But when abnormal sickle haemoglobin releases the oxygen, the oxygen sticks together and forms long rods, which damage and change the red blood cell into rigid, sticky, sickle like or crescent moon shapes. The sickle-shaped red blood cells break apart easily, having a shorter lifespan of only 10-20 days instead of the normal 120 days and aren t replaced as quickly as normal blood cells. This leads to a shortage of red blood cells, known as anaemia. These irregularly shaped blood cells, unable to move around as easily, clump together get stuck in small blood vessels, blocking blood flow and the transportation of oxygen to parts of the body. Tissue and organs that do not receive a normal amount of blood flow eventually becomes damaged resulting in episodes of severe pain called a sickle cell crisis or a vaso-occlusive crisis. What Does the Separation of Church and State Really Mean? The popular notion among many people about the separation of church and state is that people cannot express their religious views in public places. They are of the opinion that since public facilities like schools, hospitals and other public areas are funded by the state, they cannot be used as places for expression of one’s religious faith. Although the founding fathers of the United States were overtly Christian and based the constitution on the Biblical values and ideas, there have always been others who have opposed the involvement of religion in state affairs. So, the row over the separation of church and state is not a recent issue. In reality, separation of church and state means that the state does not have the right to interfere in religious affairs of any kind. The state does not have the right to prohibit prayer, worship or any other religious activity. Religion is something that needs to be governed by the church and the state has neither the authority nor the capability of dealing with it. Although many people who prefer the former interpretation would not want to believe it, this is the right interpretation of the separation of church and state. David Barton, the founder of WallBuilders, is a collector of many early American documents. He states that there is ample proof in the original documents that the founding fathers of the nation firmly believed in the church acting independently without any form of interference from the state. Through use of language, the reader is positioned to view him adversely, but during the journey of morality lessons shown by three spirits, Scrooge recovers his sense of joy by undergoing a significant transformation. Scrooge seeks redemption through the many lessons taught by the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. In A Christmas Carol, Dickens represents Scrooge as a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old sinner who is against Christmas and happiness and values money, yet given a chance to redeem his fate.
